In this research selective isolation of Streptomyces sp. was performed using a variety of actinomycete-selective media from soil samples collected at natural farming and mangrove sites. The isolated strains were subsequently screened for antimicrobial activity against ESKAPE pathogens. The crude and purified bioactive metabolites extracted from these isolates were evaluated and their antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) profiles were recorded against a panel of ESKAPE pathogens. Based on these results, the actinobacterial isolates demonstrating a consistent antimicrobial activity against one or more of ESKAPE pathogens were further selected for whole genome sequencing, genome-based identification and analysis of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) associated with antimicrobial secondary metabolites.
