资源简介:
The genome provides a comprehensive view of the whole genome sequence of Staphylococcus aureus and its functional potential. 2,643 genomic features were identified, most of which are protein-coding sequences (CDS), comprising 2,571 entries. In addition to these, the annotation includes 66 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 5 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and a single transfer-messenger RNA (tmRNA), indicating a complete and functionally diverse genome structure typical of prokaryotic organisms. Among the CDS entries, approximately 60.4% (1,554) are associated with known gene names or symbols, suggesting a substantial portion of the genome has recognisable homologs or characterised functions. The dataset also includes 1,542 unique product annotations, underscoring the functional diversity of the strain and the likely presence of many unique or strain-specific proteins.Furthermore, the genome is rich in enzymatic diversity, as evidenced by the assignment of 637 unique Enzyme Commission (EC) numbers. These annotations enable insights into the metabolic and catalytic capabilities of S. aureus. A similar level of diversity is observed in the COG (Clusters of Orthologous Groups) classifications, with 636 distinct entries. This allows for comparative genomics and functional categorisation within evolutionary and metabolic contexts. This level of annotation quality is highly useful for identifying potential pathways and gene families of clinical, industrial, or environmental interest.Regarding gene length characteristics, CDS entries exhibit an average length of approximately 897 base pairs (bp), ranging from 90 to 7,446 bp, consistent with typical bacterial gene lengths. Ribosomal RNAs vary widely in length, likely reflecting both partial and complete gene annotations for 16S, 23S, and 5S rRNA types. Transfer RNAs are compact, with lengths mostly ranging between 72 and 93 bp, matching known structural requirements. The single tmRNA, at 359 bp, suggests a mechanism for ribosomal rescue, an important feature in stress response and translational fidelity. The annotation results highlight the Staphylococcus aureus genomic completeness and metabolic versatility. The range of functional categories, enzyme codes, and product types suggests that this organism may possess broad ecological adaptability, virulence potential, or specialised traits suitable for further study. The annotations lay a strong foundation for downstream analyses, including pathway modelling, antimicrobial resistance profiling, gene expression studies, and biotechnological exploitation. Overall, the data reflect a well-annotated whole genome of S. aureus with promising avenues for both basic research and clinical or industrial applications.
