资源简介:
To examine whether the second Trump administration’s unprecedented assault on federal support for scientific research has intractably polarized public support for science spending, we replicated a 2014 survey experiment in March 2025. While most Americans continue to overestimate the scale of federal science spending, support for increasing investment has grown since 2014. Informing respondents of the actual science spending level continues to increase support for more federal investment, and in 2025 this effect is concentrated among Republicans, despite the intensity of anti-science cues from President Trump. Science knowledge is also correlated with support for science spending, underscoring the need for robust science education to combat the politicization of science.
