This data was collected under the access to genetic resources research permits MAE-DNB-CM-2016-0045 and MAE-DNB-CM-2019-0121 granted by the Ministry of the Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition of Ecuador (Ministerio de Ambiente Agua y Transición Ecológica, MAATE).

## Description of the data and file structure

Bromeliads (*Aechmea hoppii* and *A. nidularioides*) were accessed using double-rope canopy techniques in San José de Payamino (Orellana), Ecuador, part of the Amazon rainforest. Various measurements related to the position of the bromeliad while still on the tree (specified in the associated publication), previous to bagging and removing the plant for further processing and to collect individual invertebrates from it. Invertebrates were then classified as morphospecies within orders by some of the coauthors at the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad (Quito), Ecuador. Individuals were counted and deposited in Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad.
