The strain P. fluorescens YK-310 produces, in low amounts, the antibiotically active secondary metabolite ferrocin. Thus, the genome YK-310 was sequenced in order to locate and identify the corresponding biosynthetic gene cluster of this antibiotically active lipopeptide. The knowledge about the gene cluster will enable further engineering efforts to raise the production and to investigate the mode of action.
