Reconstruction of 47 ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) MAGs (Metagenome-Assembled Genomes) from surface sediments of the Atacama and Kermadec trench systems in the South Pacific Ocean. Samples were taken from the trench axis as well as the neighbouring abyssal plains down to 30 cm below the seafloor. These MAGs were classified as members of family Nitrosopumilaceae and were used to study the distribution and genomic variation of AOA in abyssal and hadal surface sediments.
