Baltic three-spined sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus) were acclimated within and across generations to decreased (20 to 6 PSU) and increased (20 to 33 PSU) salinity while keeping one control group at intermediate salinity (20 PSU). After two lab bred generations, three months old juveniles were sacrificed and gill tissue was dissected. Reduced representation bisulfite sequencing was conducted on DNA extracted from whole gill tissue. The aim of the study was to identify whether DNA methylation mediates transgenerational effects.
