THE ROLE OF TEACHER MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES IN DEVELOPING YOUNG EFL LEARNERS' MOTIVATION TO LEARN ENGLISH

This thesis examines teacher motivational strategies in developing young EFL learners’ motivation to learn English. Special attention is given to praise, constructive feedback, positive reinforcement, pair work and group work. In an English as a Foreign Language context, learners’ classroom participation and confidence largely depend on the teacher’s pedagogical approach. The thesis discusses ways of increasing learners’ engagement and willingness to communicate in English. As a result, motivational strategies are presented as an important condition for effective English language teaching.
