Size 7 in. by 51/4 in.; foll. 80. Twenty three lines in a page. I.Foll. 2-11. A treatise on Arithmetic, called تلخيص اعمال الحساب , by Abu’l-‘Abbâs Aḥmad b. Abu ‘Abdallah Muḥammad b. ‘Othmân Azdî IBN AL-BANNÂ Marrâkushî (flourished in the seventh century). Cf. Ḥ. Kh. ii. 400 ; Cat. Mus. Brit. 198. Begins : قال الشيخ الامام المغربى ابوالعباس ... رضه الغرض فى هذا الكتاب تلخيص اعمال الحساب و تعريف ابوابه و ضبط قواعده و مبانيه و هو يشتمل على جزاين (!) الاول فى اعمال العدد المعلوم و الثانى فى القوانين التى يمكن بها الوصول الى معرفة قدر المجهول المطلوب من المعلوم المفروض الخ. This is the first part (جزء) only. Well written in a small hand. The first few leaves are much injured by damp. There follows immediately, written in the same hand, ---- II. Foll. 11-18. A Commentary on Ibn Yâsmîn’s Algebra in verse (see no. 765) , by ‘Alî b. Muḥammad Ḳurashî, commonly called ḲALṢÂDÎ, Andalusî Basṭî (d. A.H. 891).1 It is entitled تحفة الناسين على ارجوزة ابن الياسمين 2 . Begins : يقول عبيد الله على بن محمد القريشى الشهير بالقلصادى الاندلسى البسطى غفر الله له و لوالديه و للمسلمين المومنين آمين المحدث الكل الى اجل معدود ‘ فله الشكر على اولانى من الفضل و الجود‘ وصلى ... اما بعد فالمراد من هذا الموضوع شرح الفاظ ارجوزة الفقيه الامام العالم ابى الفضل قاسم بن الياسمينى رحه 3 الخ. This piece is dated Thursday, 13th Ramaḍân, 866, and the copyist gives his name as Muḥammad b. ‘Abdallah Ṭarrânî الطرانى . III.Foll. 19-69. A Commentary on the تلخيص اعمال الحساب (see no. I.), entitled اللباب , by ‘ABD AL-‘AZÎZ B. ‘ALÎ B. DÂ’ÛD HAWÂRÎ المصراتى , who wrote it with the sanction of the author, and dedicated it to Abu Muḥammad ‘Abdallah b. Abu Madyan , Wazîr to Abu Ya’ḳûb ( Yûsuf, the Almohade ?). Cf. Ḥ. Kh. ii. 400; Casiri, i. 380 sq.; 1 Catal. Bodl. i. 76. Begins: قال العبد الخاضع ... المصراتى عفا الله عنه الحمد لله ولى النعم ‘ و بارئ النسم . The author says subsequently: .... وصلة الدعاء لمولانا امير المسلمين ابن امير المسلمين ابى يعقوب بالنصر العزيز من عنده و بعد اطال الله بقاء سيدنا الوزير المعظم ... سراج الدولة الميمونة ابو (!) محمد عبدالله بن عمادنا الشيخ الفقيه الصالح ... الاطهر ابى مدين الخ. The text is marked with ص , and the commentary with ش . Written like nos. I. and II. Dated end of Jum. I., 856. IV. Foll. 70v.-76. An extract from SHIHÂB AL-DÎN IBN AL-HÂ’IM’S (Aḥmad b. Muḥammad, died probably A.H. 815) Commentary on his own treatise on Inheritance. It bears on vested inheritance. It bears on vested inheritance (المناسخات) . Begins : الحمد لله رب العالمين ... قال الشيخ العلامة شهاب الدين بن الهائم قدس الله روحه فى اثناء شرحه على ألفيّته فى علم المواريث فى الكلام على المناسخات فصل اعلم ان علم المناسخات بالجدول هو من الصناعة البديعة العجيبة تلقيتها من استادى اى (؟ ابى ) الحسن الجلاوى رحه الخ. The work in question is perhaps identical with the كفاية الالفيّة , or كفاية الفرائض , ascribed to the author in Ḥ. Kh. v. 218 and 219 sq. This piece is written by the same hand as the preceding, but in a somewhat different style. It is dated A.H. 860. The colophon runs as follows: علقها العبد الفقير الى الله تعالى محمد الطرانى الازهرى الشافعى المقيم برواق بن .. 2 بتاريخ شهر محرم المبارك من شهور سنة ٨٦٠ . Many tables. V.Foll. 76v.-79. A short treatise on planes, without title. Begins: نبتدى بعد حمد الله ... بالسطح الذی يحيط به خط واحد ثم بالذى يحيط به خطان و كذا على توالى الاعداد . Inelegantly written in a small character, with rough diagrams. Transcribed by Abu Yazîd Sharwânî, A.H. 860. The vacant spaces at the beginning and the end of the treatises are usually filled with various extracts, anecdotes, etc. Seal of Ibrâhîm Nauras (‘Âdil Shâh II.). Cat. 237 (Hendussuh), ii. 1 Cf. Cat. Brit. 199; Casiri, i. 289. 2 The MS. has تحفة الناسينى على ارجوزة بن الياسمينى . 3 The name given here differs entirely from the common tradition (see no. 765). 1 the statements of Casiri, p. 381, however, seem to be incorrect. 2 This word is indistinct, it might beمعشر , as well as معمر .
