Local Consumer Price Indices by Income Group in Spain, 2006–2022

This dataset presents local consumer price indices (CPIs) for Spain at the municipal level, disaggregated by household income group and covering the period from 2006 to 2022. The indices are constructed by combining detailed rental price data (from both the Sistema Estatal de Referencia del Precio del Alquiler de Vivienda and Idealista) with household-level consumption patterns for 100 non-housing goods (from the Encuesta de Presupuestos Familiares). This methodology captures both spatial and temporal variation in inflation. For this purpose, all values are normalized to reflect local prices relative to the municipality of Madrid in the year 2016. The resulting indices can be used to adjust wage or household income data for local cost-of-living differences, allowing for more accurate assessments of poverty and inequality across locations and income groups.
