Europe: renewable energy capacity investment 2018, by country

Renewable energy technologies generate energy from resources naturally replenishable in a human time scale and thus, foster the transition towards decentralization of energy production and decarbonization. Investment, be it in the form of asset finance of utility-scale projects from internal company balance sheets, loans, equity capital, or financing of small-scale projects, is crucial for the development of new capacities and expansion of the sector. Renewable energy investment in Europe In 2019, a total of 13 European countries received investment in installation of new renewable energy capacities of over one billion U.S. dollars. Spain is one of the countries attracting very high interest with not only the second largest investment value, but also the highest annual growth rate at almost 25 percent compared with 2018. Renewable energy technologies in Europe Wind energy was the most attractive renewable energy sector in Europe in 2019. Together, wind offshore and wind onshore accounted for more than one third of the capacity investments. Two of the three largest public equity raisings for renewable energy that year included companies operating in the field of wind energy.
