Following sharp declines in voter confidence in the U.S., scholars and practioners have sought strategies to rebuild trust in elections. This pre-registered report tests whether “social pressure”—a get-out-the-vote tactic reminding voters their vote history is public—can also promote trust by signaling administrative transparency. It also examines whether prompting voters to look up their own voting history on official websites boosts confidence by making information more accessible. In a survey experiment across four states, I find these messages increase perceptions of electoral record accessibility and voter confidence. A field experiment conducted during the 2024 general election in North Carolina replicates the accessibility effect but did not increase election confidence. This research offers a novel contribution by linking a commonly used mobilization tactic to election attitudes, estimating the impact of an intervention after ballots are counted. However, the findings underscore the limits of informational interventions in shifting confidence amid deep political polarization.
