Study of the Abundance and Diversity of Insects in Grassland and Woodlot Regions

Data was obtained by studying grassland and woodlot regions of Danby Woods in York University. This field sampling was conducted by utilizing ten quadrats, each encompassed a total area of one metre squared. Quadrats were used to study both regions and they were randomly placed. Researchers observed each quadrat for forty second intervals. The Recognizable Taxonomic Unit of each insect was recorded as well as its abundance. Total abundance and diversity were also determined. Only insects that were found inside the quadrats were studied regardless of whether or not the insects remained in the quadrat for the full forty second time interval. Flying insects and insects outside of the quadrats were not recorded.
