Oral microbiota among preschool children with rampant caries: a matched case-control study

Rampant caries is characterized by acute onset and the presence of advanced or severe decay affecting multiple surfaces. The aim of this study was to investigate the oral microbiota disparities between children with rampant caries and caries-free children. A total of 88 preschool children were recruited, with a case group of 44 children with rampant caries and a healthy control group of 44 caries-free children.The sex and age of children in both groups were matched. The study's findings contribute to understanding factors affecting oral microbiota composition and offer insights into potential strategies for rampant caries prevention and management.
