Preadaptation as a potential mechanism facilitating colonization of hydrogen sulfide-rich environments

We performed a comparative experiment to elucidate transcriptional responses in nine species of fish from three families in response to exposure to sulfide exposure using RNA-seq. The goal of this study was to identify potential preadaptations that facilitated the colonization of sulfide-rich habitats in some, but not all, species occurring in neighboring non-sulfidic streams.
