Here we propose to complement our studies on the magnetism at high pressures of Rare Earth ferromagnetic metals done by using neutron diffraction at the ILL, with XMCD techniques by exploring the L2,3 edge of the rare earths at the ID12 beamline. Initially, we will study up to 60GPa the metallic Ho, for which we already published the magnetic structure up to 20 GPa, and Gd, for which the strong neutron absorption, avoided the obtention of any good quality neutron data at high pressure. The magnetism of the rare earths ferromagnets at pressures up to 60 GPa is surprisingly poorly known, and these experiments will allow the determination of the spin and orbital contribution to the magnetization, and therefore a much deeper discussion about the suppression of their bulky magnetic ordering.
