The Federal Communications Commission’s Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) aggregates information on communications infrastructure status and situational awareness information during times of crisis. This information is provided by communications companies, including wireless, wireline, broadcast, and cable providers. Source Provider: FCC Public Safety and Homeland Security Data Type: Situation Report available as PDF or TXT file on FCC website. Information Included: 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP): Status of PSAP sites; Wireless Services: status of cell sites, including the total number and percentage of cellular sites out of service by county and/or state; Cable Systems and Wireline: Estimate number of subscribers out of service; Broadcast TV and Radio: Total number of stations out of service, including station call signs. Availability: Information provided by DIRS is available during major disasters, during which, the FCC will publish publicly accessible daily reports on their website with the information contained above. In addition to the public reports, the FCC will provide more detailed and confidential information to ESF-2 and the DHS National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC).
