WORLD Legislative Repository for Education Laws 2023

The WORLD Legislative Repository for Education Laws 2023 provides the full-text legal documents used to code the WORLD Education Laws 2023 dataset. The collection includes education acts, child protection legislation, disability rights acts, gender equality acts, anti-discrimination legislation, and non-legislative policy and government commitments governing tuition-free and compulsory education from pre-primary through completion of secondary, disability rights in education, and gender equality in education. All laws and policies in effect as of January 2023 are included, whether they were recently passed or are decades old laws that were still in force. Files are separated by region and individual country files can be accessed by using Harvard Dataverse's explore function (the eye icon). The WORLD Education Laws 2023 dataset is available at https://doi.org/10.7910/DVN/LFCHTB and was created to assess progress on constitutional rights, laws, and policies affecting access to education through a systematic review of legislation governing education across all 193 UN countries as of January 2023. The dataset covers tuition-free and compulsory education from pre-primary through the completion of secondary, fee-free education from primary through the completion of secondary, prohibitions of gender discrimination and sexual harassment in education, and prohibitions of disability-based discrimination, the right to inclusive education, and guarantees of integration in education. The WORLD Policy Analysis Center (WORLD) is committed to improving the quantity and quality of globally comparative data available to policymakers, citizens, civil society, and researchers on laws and policies that work to support human rights, including economic opportunity, social and civic engagement, human health, development, well-being, and equity.
