Mobility Survey Würzburg 2023

The mobility survey Würzburg 2023 (MbWü 2023) is a household survey on the internal, source and destination traffic of Würzburg residents. It serves to collect representative data on the mobility behavior of the citizens of Würzburg for the year 2023. The Würzburg 2023 mobility survey was conducted by the University of Würzburg. During the survey period from 26.04.2023 to 02.08.2023, citizens of the city of Würzburg aged 18 and over with a main or secondary residence were surveyed in writing by post. The households contacted were selected by means of a simple random sample from the City of Würzburg´s population register. As it was not possible to draw households directly, a total of 8,000 people were drawn on behalf of the 8,000 households sought and contacted as anchor persons on behalf of their entire household. Anchor persons had to be at least 18 years old and registered in Würzburg on the day of sampling, either as their main or secondary residence. The sample comprises a total of 2,944 Würzburg households, 6,372 people and 15,672 journeys. The survey focuses on the mobility behavior of Würzburg residents in 2023. Demographic and mobility-related information was collected on the household, on all household members, on the journeys made on the reference date and on personal attitudes and wishes regarding mobility services in Würzburg.<br>1. Household questionnaire: Number of people in the household (household size); type of residence (main or secondary residence); city district; walking time to the nearest bus stop or streetcar stop, to the nearest train station, to the nearest car sharing station and to the nearest cargo bike rental station; self-assessment of the household´s economic situation; number of vehicles in the household (mopeds, motorcycles, scooters, cars, company cars, e-scooters, bicycles, electric bicycles, other vehicles); information on up to three available cars in the household: type: Private car or company car; mileage in 2022; drive type; registration type: permanently registered, seasonally registered, currently deregistered; private parking space / garage; parking situation at place of residence; bicycle parking space at place of residence overnight (in public space with bicycle stand/without bicycle stand, in building, accessible without steps/via steps to the street, on private property outside the building; at another location).

2. Personal questionnaire for all household members: age (grouped); sex; education: school leaving certificate; vocational qualification; employment; days per week on which they usually leave the house for work/training/study; working hours per week; flexible working hours; parking space at the workplace; driving license possession (moped/scooter, motorcycle, car); vehicles available (bicycle/e-bike, e-scooter, moped/scooter/motorcycle, car); type of ticket used.

3. Way questionnaire: key date-related way information (average working day outside vacations) from up to eight people with up to seven ways: key date; mobility on key date; start of way at home; purpose of way, means of transport used; duration of way, distance; one or more further ways covered; home office on key date; disability; restriction of mobility in Würzburg due to disability.
