International tourism receipts in Costa Rica 2010-2021, by category

Throughout the past decade, the annual expenditure of international tourists in Costa Rica showed an overall increasing trend. In 2020, however, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacted the international tourism receipts in the Latin American country causing a drop of roughly 65 percent, according to data published by the UNWTO. In 2021, travel expenditure increased but not to pre-pandemic levels.
