NeMys - Generic Taxonomic Database System on Mysida and Nematoda

Global information on Mysida and Nematoda put together at the Marine Biology Section of Ghent University.

NeMys is a database system developed to store as many as possible types of biological information on mainly marine taxa in a fully digital way. The concept of storing data on morphology, biogeography, taxonomy, literature, pictures, collections and molecular analyses in one dataset, creates a large group of possible end users and makes it possible to analyse and compare data on a taxonomic group from different points of view.

The database was developed at the Marine Biology Section (Ghent University) mainly with focus on marine Nematoda and Mysida. Data input is done at the Marine Biology Section (Ghent University) (Mysida by Tim Deprez, Nematoda by several meiobenthic researchers). For both Mysida and Nematoda, information on species worldwide is entered. Especially for nematoda, priorities for data logging follow from the activities of the section. For Mysida, data is entered systematically for all species, in the framework of the PhD research of Tim Deprez.

Comment: NeMys was developed after a series of experiences with other digital information systems mainly on free-living marine Nematoda (NeMaslan, TaxonLan) and Mysida (MysidLan, TaxonLan). These datasets were transformed into the currently used system NeMys.
