Sewage surveillance of antibiotic resistance

Sewage contains shed bacteria from a large number of individuals. Thus, analyses of sewage could serve as a surveillance system for antibiotic resistance. With the aim to evaluate the value of sewage analyses for the surveillance of antibiotic resistance, we have compared sewage data to available clinical antibiotic resistance data in ten European countries.
