Protective effect of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (L.) Lam. fruit on gut microbiota of dextran sulfate sodium-induced ulcerative colitis in mice

Abnormal intestinal mucosal immunity induced by intestinal flora disorder, is one of the important causes of UC. When intestinal flora is out of balance, harmful bacteria grow excessively, which leads to the occurrence of colon diseases. Therefore, the regulation of intestinal microecology is conducive to the control of the development of UC. BGF has long been used in traditional folk medicine for the treatment of chronic diarrhea, and given the proceeding promising findings on its antioxidant activity and the vital role of oxidative equilibrium and intestinal flora in the pathogenesis of UC, it is therefore logical to hypothesize that BGF may exert protective effect against UC by regulating the intestinal flora.
