Spanish Translation and Adaptation of the Qualities of Daydreaming Scale (QuOD) using a Non-Clinical Sample

This study reports the translation and adaptation of the Qualities of Daydreaming Scale (QuOD), measuring pleasantness, perceptual realism, and frequency of daydreaming, into Spanish and evaluates its psychometric properties in a non-clinical adult sample. An exploratory factor analysis (N = 104) replicated the original three-factor structure, but with a different item distribution and causing the removal of one item. A confirmatory factor analysis (N = 142) supported the revised 10-item model, showing acceptable fit and reliability. Given the different item distribution, the interpretation of the construct measured by factor 2 was changed from perceptual realism to reality enhancement, reflecting a reinterpretation focused on the perceived usefulness and future orientation of daydreams. Both pleasantness and reality enhancement correlated positively with life satisfaction and negatively with psychopathological symptoms, supporting construct validity. The authors conclude that the Spanish QuOD offers a reliable tool for exploring adaptive aspects of daydreaming.
