Influence of captive breeding and Trichomonas gallinae infection on the oral microbiome of Bonellis's eagle chicks

The purpose of this work was to describe for the first time the composition of the oral microbiota of Bonellis's eagle chicks raised in the wild. The influence of several risk factors, such as subsequent captivity breeding, T. gallinae infections or the presence of lesions in the oral cavity was also analyzed. The information could be useful for conservation purposes by increasing the success in captivity breeding but also as a starting point for comparison of avian microbiota from similar hosts or birds with similar diets.
