We measured the advancing and receding contact angles around spherical particles at an air-water interface. We varied the shape of the air-water interface (especially deviatoric curvature) and found that the receding contact angle can be substantially lower when the interface has a cylindrical or saddle-like shape, compared to a planar shape.
