The Bransfield Rift (El Rif del Bransfield)

The result of observations and the aeromagnetic profiles through the
gravimetric river basin, along with the geologic studies throughout the coasts
of the South Shetland Islands, as well as registered seismic and volcanic
activity throughout this region has demonstrated that the Bransfield Strait is
a dynamically active rift in total expansion. The regional aeromagnetic
observations have allowed a more precise identification of the rift and its
relation to the active volcanism of the area. The aeromagnetic map shows a
series of linear, in "echelon", and to a great extent parallel magnetic
anomalies in the direction of main the structural course of the Bransfield
Strait.

El resultado de los perfiles aeromagneticos a traves de la cuenca y las
observaciones gravimetricas, junto con los estudios geologicos a lo largo de
las costas de las Islas Shetland del Sur, asi como la actividad sismica y
volcanica registrada a lo largo de esta region han demostrado que el Estrecho
de Bransfield es un rift dinamicamente activo en plena expansion. Las
observaciones aeromagneticas regionales han permitido una identificacion mas
precisa del rift y su relacion con el volcanismo activo del area. El mapa
aeromagnetico muestra una serie de anomalias magneticas lineales, en "echelon",
en gran medida paralelas a la direccion del rumbo estructural principal del
Estrecho de Bransfield.
