资源简介:
This series records admissions to, and discharges from, the Hospital from 1875 until 1916. From 1911 onwards it also incorporates daily tallies of hospital in-patients.The series begins on 22 January 1875, with a record of the fifteen patients already in the hospital on that day. Admission dates are not given for these patients, which would seem to indicate that there was no earlier record available from which they might have been copied. Thenceforward, whenever a new volume is commenced, the details of those patients already in the hospital on the day on which it was commenced are transcribed from the previous volume in the series.Until 1910, details of patients are entered in simple chronological order. From the beginning of 1911, however, each volume is organised alphabetically. From this point, also, each volume contains a printed section towards the back in which are entered daily tallies of in-patients, along with monthly totals and averages. The record of admissions in the latest volume held, that for 1916, concludes on 30 June in that year. Previous volumes had invariably concluded on 31 December, and there is no shortage of space in this volume for further entries to have been made. This argues that a deliberate decision had been made to terminate the record in this volume at this point. The daily tallies in this volume, however, continued to be entered until the end of 1917.In addition to the dates of admission and discharge, these volumes normally record the following information about each patient, where available: name, age, gender, residence, occupation, nationality and religion; nature of disease, and result of treatment; the person or body on whose recommendation the patient was admitted to the Hospital; the attending physician; and whether the patient was able to pay or was admitted as a charity case. Provision was made for the inclusion of any remarks on the case which appeared relevant.
