Evolutionary categories of the fusion events detected in this study.

After the phylogenetic analysis of each protein result, it was possible to classify some of the events according to each protein pair’s evolution throughout the tree of life. The categorization here was done by obtaining the evolutionary pattern from each event’s history from the respective tree of life, for example, four fusion events were detected in the Metazoa lineage, three fission events probably occurred in the Excavata, etc. For more details please refer to the text, and Table S6.
