Data on metabolism and net production of individual phytoplankton species used to parametrize the models presented in the text. Data on metabolism and net production of phytoplankton communities, as well as size, abundance and biovolume of each species and of the whole community. The dataset also includes estimates of community energy flux from four different approaches: mean cell rates of energy use, mean biovolume rates, across species scaling accounting for size and density effects, and individual species rates.
