Agro-input retailers and empty pesticide containers in Zapotillo canton, Ecuador: survey data, questionnaire and R code (2026)

This dataset contains the anonymised responses, questionnaire, codebook and R code of a census survey of the 30 agro-input stores that sell pesticides in Zapotillo canton (Loja province, southern Ecuador). The survey was conducted between 9 September and 16 October 2026 with Microsoft Forms, in person or by link, with one informant per store. The 21-item questionnaire covers pesticide sales, the advice given to farmers on empty containers, container reception at the store, participation in collection campaigns, knowledge of collection programmes, the practices that retailers observe among farmers, perceived barriers and the store's level of commitment to container management. The package includes:- the anonymous survey export (data/raw, Excel, Spanish headers);- a bilingual codebook describing all raw and derived variables (codebook/codebook.csv);- the questionnaire in Spanish with English translations (questionnaire/questionnaire_ES_EN.pdf);- the R scripts for quality control, coding, descriptive statistics with Wilson confidence intervals, exact McNemar tests, Spearman correlations with bootstrap intervals, Fisher, Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests with Benjamini–Hochberg correction, and figures (code/);- the output tables, figures and R session information (results/). Running the scripts from the root folder reproduces all tables and figures of the associated article. See README.md for details.
