Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network database

The CWT MSN is the official recorder of stranded marine organisms in Cornwall, UK. Our objectives are to collect spatio-temporal data on all species, to analyse trends and to examine causes of stranding. reports are contributed by the public and local agencies and megafauna are examined and recorded in detail by our team of 100+ volunteers. Data are published by ourselves in conjunction with various partners. Basic data are accessible to the public via our website and our annual reports and via the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme database. The dataset comprises count and presence only abd species is confirmed wher possible by looking at any photos contributed or by the description given. Location is checked and plotted using Ordnance Survey map coordinates. Data can be provided as delimited text files. Data collected include date, location, OS grid reference, finder, wind direction.
