Das Tätigkeitsfeld der Palliativmedizin wird häufig auf den Übergang vom Leben zum Tod reduziert. Diese Beschreibung ist jedoch nicht hinreichend. Palliativ betreute Patienten befinden sich in einer sehr komplexen Lebensphase, die geprägt ist von verschiedensten Übergängen. Die Musiktherapie stellt hier mit ihrer menschlichen Haltung und der Vielfalt ihrer Wirkweisen eine wichtige Berufsdisziplin in der Begleitung Betroffener dar. Dieser Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die Palliativmedizin sowie die Situation des Patienten und beschreibt darüber hinaus Setting, therapeutische Haltungen, Methoden und Wirkweisen der Musiktherapie. Geradezu wortwörtlich ‚palliativ‘, also im ursprünglichen Sinne der Wortbedeutung ummantelnd, wirkt dabei das atmosphärische Fürspiel, ein Phänomen, das anhand des vom Autoren geprägten Begriffs der ‚Musikalischen Blase‘ tiefergehend dargestellt wird. Palliative care is often reduced solely to the transition from life to death. This, however, is not an adequate description. Palliative patients find themselves in a highly complex stage of life, characterized by diverse transitions. With its deeply humane approach and wide range of means, music therapy may be seen as an important profession in supporting patients during this phase of life. This article presents an overview of palliative care with consideration of the patient’s situation and furthermore describes the setting, therapeutic approaches, methods and mechanisms of music therapy. In contemplation of the origin of the word „palliative“, meaning „to cloak“, in-depth observation of atmospheric therapeutic playing is given. This literally „palliative“ phenomenon is presented on the basis of the author’s coined term, the „Musical Bubble“. peerReviewed publishedVersion
