Digital Archive from Archaeological Excavation at Newgate Lane East, Fareham, Hampshire, May 2023

This collection comprises images, databases, spreadsheets, and GIS data from an archaeological excavation at Newgate Lane East, Fareham, Hampshire. This work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in May 2023. A large amount of Late Iron Age to Early Roman material was recovered from 11 ditches forming two rectilinear enclosures and elements of three field systems were recorded on site. A large waste pit containing stone tools associated with grain processing and numerous smaller pits were in the central and eastern portions of site. Traces of domestic hearth waste was recovered from some of these pits, however neither the features found nor the quantities of hearth waste present was suggestive of any settlement within the excavation area.
