This study will use operando dark field X-ray microscopy to reveal the strains and morphological changes occurring at a crucial interface within a next-generation type of battery, called a solid-state battery. Better understanding of electrochemically-driven mechanical failures will inform rational design of internal microstructures and choice of materials. This will reduce the performance decay of solid-state batteries and increase their lifetimes.
