Monthly visits to leading e-commerce and retail sites in Mexico 2024

As of February 2024, Amazon's site for Mexico (amazon.com.mx) registered an average of 152.4 million visits per month, making it the most popular e-commerce platform among consumers in the North American country. Its main competitor, Mercado Libre, closely followed, with nearly 147.5 million monthly visits.Mexico’s blooming e-commerce marketOver the last few years, online buying and selling have gained considerable ground in Mexico, so much so that the country has positioned itself as the second largest e-commerce market in Latin America. With a rapidly increasing online buying population, it was forecast that nearly 70 million Mexicans would be shopping on the internet in 2023, a figure that would grow by over 26 percent by 2027.Time for SMEs to go digitalAttentive to the popularity of internet purchasing and the success of sellers who have ventured online, small and medium-sized businesses are also working on joining the digitalization process. According to a survey, the proportion of SMEs selling online in Mexico rose from 33 percent in 2019 to 64 percent a year later. For many of these businesses, the need to bolster their online sales became apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, nearly half of the small and medium-sized enterprises that sold via e-commerce in the North American country said they started doing so because of the coronavirus crisis.
