Global Yearly Fractional Vegetation Cover (FVC) in 2000-2021

Fractional vegetation cover (FVC), represents the planar fraction of the land surface covered by green foliage. FVC is an important vegetation biophysical parameter and a controlling factor in transpiration, photosynthesis, global climate change and other terrestrial processes, geochemical cycles, and climate models. Measures of FVC are widely used to monitor vegetation quality and ecosystem change. This product developed by a pragmatic method (MultiVI) for estimating fully-covered vegetation and bare soil VI and subsequent estimation of fractional vegetation cover (FVC). The product used the MODIS NDVI product (MOD13A2&MYD13A2) to generate a global 1-kilometer vegetation cover dataset for the years 2000-2021. After global validation, the accuracy was determined to be 87%.
