数据库的资料主要以公开发表的文献为基础。本数据库建立过程中，我们与20多位专家联系进行资料追踪和核实。在IGBP-PAGES支持下于1999.4在南京主持召开了《中国古湖泊演变及水汽循环动力学》国际会议（见PAGES报道， 1999年9(2)期）。会议交流了我国第四纪湖泊专家的最新成果，得到了我国40多位第四纪学者和专家的资料贡献，为收集和标准化数据库提供了大量宝贵资料。该数据集包含了9个pdf

该数据集在古湖泊文献的基础上，从120多个湖泊资料点中，筛选能够反映气候变化、覆盖我国各个气候区域的湖泊点，进行综合整理，得到中国古湖泊编码数据集。包含了2个文件，1个为excel表格文件，“lake status coding.xls”，为中国古湖泊标准编码数据，1个为文本数据，“Readme.doc”，为数据对应说明文档。
