Dataset of 3 Chinese media on Iran-Israeli war, June 2025

This dataset comprises coded news articles from three major Chinese English-language media outlets—Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, and Global Times—covering the June 2025 Iran–Israel conflict. It includes the full text and metadata for each article, as well as manual coding of key journalism and framing variables based on the analytical framework developed in our associated study.Each record contains the following fields:Article: Unique identifier for each news item.Title: Headline or title of the article.Text: Full body text of the article.Link: URL to the original online article.Iran, Israel, US, China: Coded representations of how each of these countries is depicted in the article.Peace/war journalism: Coding indicating the presence of peace-oriented versus conflict-oriented journalistic features.Sources: Classification of source types cited in each article.Tone: Coded tone (analytical vs. emotional) according to the study’s coding scheme.The dataset is intended to support research on framing and peace journalism in international conflict reporting and may be used for comparative media analysis, conflict communication studies, and content analysis methodology development. Coding followed systematic manual annotation procedures to ensure reliability. The dataset facilitates replication and further exploration of how news media frame interstate conflict in non-Western contexts.
