"Coolies gathering tea. To illustrate 'From the outposts', Eastern Himalayas. ❧ Photograph by Thomas Paar, Darjeeling”. ❧ Exterior view of labourers, mainly female, working on a tea plantation. They have large baskets strapped to their backs into which tea the tea leaf is harvested. Several men stand around in the scene possibly having a supervisory role. The picture was used to illustrate a Church of Scotland Mission lecture. ❧ This image belongs to an album of mixed photographs collected by Dr. Stevenson and includes images from India, China and Africa.
