资源简介:
This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and GIS data from Watching Brief and Historic Building Recording work at Lambourn Almshouses, Berkshire. The work was undertaken between September 2024 to February 2025 and took place during ground disturbance works associated with the redevelopment of an existing Grade II Listed Chapel and associated school rooms. Structural remains pertaining to the Tudor foundation of the John Isbury Almshouses were recorded previously. Monitored works comprised the excavation of 13 trenches of varying sizes (trenches 3-15) and a further Historic Building Photographic Survey was commissioned by the client. The majority of the monitored excavations lay within the footprint of the extant buildings at the site. Archaeological remains comprised two chalk walls that truncated a buried garden soil. A single piece of post-medieval/modern animal bone was recovered from the buried garden soil. The 19th-century redevelopment of the site most likely accounts for the lack of prehistoric-medieval remains previously thought likely to be located within the area. Although, the difficulty of discerning further archaeological features or deposits of limited extent or subtle appearance within the narrow trial holes should be borne in mind, and prevents a definitive statement regarding the archaeological potential of the monitored trenches.
