Data set on Characterization of the structural and mechanical properties of pinecone fish (Monocentris japonica) scales

The tensile properties of M. japonica scales were evaluated using an electronic universal testing machine (Model ZQ-990B, Zhiqu, Dongguan, China) with a constant loading rate of 1 mm/min. Considering that the hydration has a significant effect on the tensile response of fish scales, the tensile tests in this study were carried out under both dry and hydrated conditions.
