Arctic Alaska Tundra and Lake Snow Surveys from 2012-2018

Late winter (March-April) snow surveys were regularly conducted in six regions of the Alaska's North Slope from 2012 to 2018 as part of NSF funded CALON (Circumarctic Lakes Observation Network) (1107481) and ALISS (Ambient Light Imaging and Spectral System) (1417300) projects. Within each region, one upland tundra sites and two lakes were surveyed each year to record snow depth and density. Surveys were primarily conducted to understand lake ice growth conditions and lake water balance, but these data should have value for a range of other studies.
