Family Transformations, 1981-1982

This longitudinal study examined differences among families in the process of divorce and the meanings and experiences of it for individual family members. The families in the study were recruited through a search of public divorce dockets of five counties in the greater Boston area. Families for whom physical separation had occurred within the past six months, and for whom there was at least one child between the ages of six and 12 (who was designated the focus child for the study) were identified. The sample was followed up a year later in 1982.
