Although not usually considered pathogenic to humans, Neisseria elongata has been implicated in several cases of infective endocarditis. In order to improve our understanding of how this commensal microorganism may cause invasive disease, we provide, along with the case report, the results of a comparative genomic analysis of the molecular features associated with virulence, resistance, and biochemical characteristics in Neisseria elongata.
