To understand diversity of cryptophyte strains of Microbial Culture Collection in National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan (NIES-MCC), we sequenced 18S rRNAs of 20 cryptophyte strains including Goniomonas. We also sequenced complete plastid genomes of 16 cryptophyte strains. In this project, we focused on heterotrophic or mixotrophic abilities in Cryptomonas species to understand early evolutionary process from photosynthesis to secondary photosynthetic losses.
