To test the impact of information technology investment (ITI) on corporate performance varies with technological development and time horizon. By using a sample of Chinese listed companies from 2009 to 2022, we find that ITI has an inverted U-shaped effect on short-term business performance, but a positive U\u0002shaped effect on long-term performance. Heterogeneity analysis shows that results also vary with enterprise ownership, technology types and industrial character.
