Genome drafts for novel Fibrobacter isolates. Fibrobacter

Cellulose-degrading bacteria in the intestines of herbivores are of fundamental importance to their hosts because these animals can not digest the plant cell wall polysaccharides in their diet without them. Fibrobacter is a genus of cellulose-degrading bacteria common in the herbivore gut, but poorly understood due to a lack of representative axenic cultures and genomic sequences. Here, we performed whole-genome sequencing of novel Fibrobacter strains recently isolated in our lab from bovine rumen and equine fecal samples in order to gain further insights into the ecology and physiology of Fibrobacter species living in the herbivore gut.
