Gothic Memoria 1-30 (2010 version)

'Gothic Memoria 1-30' was comprised of x30 one minute single channel video work filmed in various locations around Victoria and Tasmania. It depicts a reproduction of various source paintings located in Gothic Romanticism of the late 18th century and early 19th century, in particular the characters found in such source paintings and how, when these characters are recreated through performative re-enactment, how the places which surround these characters take on emotive transformations when viewed in comparison to the original source paintings. In effect these works. The central research question compounding these finished works was 'Exploring generational image repositioning through the Gothic sublime'. The works were supported by an ERGAS collection artist grant of $5000.

'Gothic Memoria 1-30' is represented in Europe by 'Souvenirs From Earth', Paris and has been screened at the 'Cologne Art Fair XX1, Cologne, Germany in October 2008, CO POP, Cologne, Germany in October 2008 and the German cable TV station 'Souvenirs From Earth' broadcast to 2 million viewers.

throughout Germany and France on a continual basis from 2008 onwards. The 2010 version was reduxed from the original and presented an extra three minutes of new material, with three existing minutes deleted and replaced by this. It is available on Blu Ray from April 2011.

The Gothic Memoria 1-30 projected explored the relationship between painting and video art and focused such enquiry into the framing of Gothic Romanticism as a driver to merge ideas together using editing as a medium for visual dialogue into ways in which the image itself can reposition a facsimile of its other based on recreating source paintings into contemporary settings through live action performance.
