Maritime pine is mainly used for pulp and paper. Wood production call for high quality selected plants. For this specie, the most powerful plant propagation technique available is somatic embryogenesis. Ir relies on the formation of embryos from non reproductive somatic cells such as cotyledons, buds or leaves. In order to improve the productivity of this technique we study the molecular mechanisms underlying growth and development of somatic embryos. Analytical methods to describe genes sequences and level of expression are used. Perspectives are a better induction of somatic embryogenesis and an improved subsequent somatic embryo development.
